Project Data / Solution Engineer

Mr. Howard Baik is a project data/solution engineer with experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and web application development. He specializes in building interactive web applications using R Shiny, enabling nontechnical users to easily explore complex data sets. He is currently pursuing a postbaccalaureate degree in computer science to broaden his technical skill set.

Web Development

Loqui: A Shiny Application for Creating Automated Videos, United States Built an R Shiny application that enables the creation of automated videos from Google Slides or Microsoft® PowerPoint.
Feedback Report: A Web-Based Shiny Dashboard for Displaying Patient-Reported Outcome Measures for Patients in Addiction Treatment, United States Developed an R Shiny dashboard that allows patients and clinicians in addiction treatment programs to monitor patients’ progress and goals over time.

Data Science

aactreveal: An R package for Extracting and Querying Data from the AACT (Aggregate Content of ClinicalTrials.gov) Database for Subsequent Analyses, United States Created an open-source R package for algorithmically querying ClinicalTrials.gov and building an analysis data set for drug discovery and development within the broader scientific community.
conrad: Client for Microsoft's "Cognitive Services Text to Speech REST" API, United States Developed and submitted conrad, an R package for converting text into synthesized speech, to the Comprehensive R Archive Network.

Fisheries

Automatic Detection Method: An Algorithm for Detecting Upwelling, United States Created an algorithm to automatically detect upwelling, an oceanographic process that has a significant impact on global fishery production. Applied principal component analysis, k-means clustering, and hierarchical clustering to real-world image data to group patterns of upwelling.

Training

Workshops, United States Designed and taught hands-on workshops covering version control with Git and GitHub, data manipulation with the tidyverse, and interactive web application development with R/Shiny.
